Preventative Dentistry

Preventative Dentistry involves taking care of your dental hygiene in order to prevent problems in the future. Preventative dentistry usually refers to regular brushing and flossing, but for preventative dentistry to be successful you must follow all of the advice given to you by the dentist or hygienist. We recommend patients come in for a cleaning based on a customized plan. During your visits for cleaning the hygienist and dentist can assess what needs to be done to protect your teeth from future problems. Our hygienists look for signs of oral cancer. Gum disease, grinding, broken teeth or restorations. Depending upon your needs the dentist will determine what course of treatment is best for you. Preventative dentistry may begin in the office. But must be carried out at home.

Periodontal disease is a sickness describing disease around the tooth. These bacteria flourish inside the gum pocket that surrounds each tooth, resulting in chronic infection and inflammation and erosion of the jawbone.
